Each year until 2012 Burnley School Sport Partnership will recruit two young people to take on the role of Young Ambassador for two years. In their first year, they work in their local communities championing sport and the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement. In the second year they take on a mentoring role with the new Young Ambassador intake. Young Ambassadors, are selected due to their sporting talent or their commitment as young sports leaders or volunteers.
School Sports Coaching Programme
The School Sport Coaching programme is one of 10 strands which make up the new PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP).
This programme is designed to create a step-change in the quantity and quality of coaching offered to young people in sport. It will drive up standards of coaching children and make a positive contribution to the Five Hour Offer.
In Burnley we have secured the services of 3 fulltime and two part time coaches, to work with our schools, colleges and clubs.
To arrange coaching in your school contact the coaches directly, click on the below link for contact details. Remember coaching is free but time is limited due to the wide areas and numbers of schools covered by the coaches.

Step into Sport
Sport relies on 1.5 million volunteers, officials, coaches, administrators and managers. The Youth Sport Trust plays a major role in supporting this need through Step into Sport which grows and deploys young people as leaders and volunteers.
There are three steps to the programme:
STEP ON (11 to 14 years)
During PE lessons students are introduced to sports leadership and volunteering. They learn how to plan and manage their own sports season.
STEP IN (14 to 16 years)
Young people are slightly older and therefore more confident in taking a lead. Through volunteering they learn the skills to manage and support school-based sporting events.
STEP OUT (16 to 19 years)
Young people learn how to move from school-based to community-based volunteering. Our Leadership Academies (14-19) provide the opportunity to refine and develop volunteering skills and experiences.

Change 4 life
The Change4Life team are big fans and say "The Promoting Activity toolkit is a great way to bring the Change4Life movement to life in your area. It's the most useful, practical set of tools for promoting activity that we know of."
A big thank you is due to the Sport England research team, as a lot of this toolkit relies on the fantastic work they have done over the past years.
