To aid the development of grass roots football, the network of Lancashire Competition Managers have been asked by Lancashire FA to provide more opportunities for primary aged girls to participate and compete in football.
Every Borough will host a local qualifier which will allow the winning teams to compete in a county final. The county final will be held in May at Lancashire FA headquarters in Leyland.
12 schools and 120 girls took part in the Burnley 6-a-side qualifier, competing for their chance to make it through to the county final. After both semi-finals went to penalty shoot outs, Brunshaw Primary School were eventually crowned champions after defeating Heasandford Primary 1-0 in the final.
Georgia Clough of Heasandford Primary and Kimberley Sykes of St Leonard’s Primary were awarded the player of the tournament trophy after continually receiving nominations from the referees for their outstanding skill and determination. Ightenhill Primary School was awarded the Fair Play/Respect team award for persistently showing sportsmanship and respect to match officials and the opposition.
