Burnley
14 schools took part in the high five borough qualifiers. This event ran over four days with the final being held on Wednesday 3rd March at Spirit of Sport, Burnley.
St Stephen’s (pictured) were crowned champions and will now go onto the Spar Lancashire Youth Games, St John’s the Baptist RC Primary school took silver medals with bronze medals being decided on a ‘golden goal’ eventually going to Wellfield Primary School.
St Leonard’s came 1st in the plate consolation round and Collette Meade of Wellfield Primary School was presented with the ‘Young Ambassador Talented Athlete Award’ for her competitive spirit and determination.
Six time paralympic gold medallist and Youth Sport Trust Ambassador Sascha Kindred, comments on how competitive sport affects young people:
'It's really important that young people experience and enjoy the benefits of high-quality competition and thorugh my role as Youth Sport Ambassador i've seen first hand how schools such as those in Burnley are revitalising competitive sport'.
Competitive school sports also helps the Burnley School Sport Partnership contribute towards the '5 hour offer' that they are working so hard towards to provide sport and physical activity opportunitites for the local schools across the Burnley borough.
