Burnley School Sport Partnership, Burnley Sports development unit and local cricket clubs of Burnley have delivered a host of Primary Kwik Cricket events. The annual Year 5 event saw over 140 children take part in the event held at Burnley Cricket Club, with Heasndford Primary School being crowned champions.
Belvedere Cricket Club were the host venue for the Asda Girls Kwik Cricket event held on 9th June and although the competition was played in winter like conditions the standard of cricket was fantastic. Heasandford Primary School again took Gold medal position and the girls will now progress onto the county final held at Unsworth Cricket Ground.
The Year 6 Asda Mixed events were held at Lowerhouse and Burnley Cricket Club on the 15th and 16th June in blazing sunshine. A representative of Asda stores who sponsor the local, county and regional events were on hand to provide much needed refreshments to the competitiors. Stoneyholme Primary school who fought of stiff competition from St Leonard’s won the Lowerhouse event and St John’ RC Primary School of Burnley beat Casterton to take the title on the other side of town. Both teams will now progress into the county final on the 29th June at Westhoughton Cricket Club.
The excellent standard of Cricket across all events is a testament to the good work being done in and around the schools and local cricket clubs, with three strong schools now going on to represent Burnley at county finals may the rest of the county stand up and take notice.
