The Warburtons Youth World Cup was organised by Burnley School Sport Partnership and member clubs (Daneshouse FC, Ightenleigh JFC, Fulledge Colts and Padiham Siants). The purpose of the tournament was to increase the number of young people playing football off the back of the legacy of the world cup in South Africa. The aim being that young people taking part are then directed into becoming members of their local clubs.
16 school teams took part from 11 Primary schools in Burnley. All teams were provided with VuVuzelas, Flags of the country they represented and T shirts in the colours of the their adopted nations. All this and the trophies were supplied by Marsdens Solicitors.
Charlie Briggs Leader of Burnley Council officially opened the tournament at Prairie Playing Fields. The tournament was a huge success and the School Sport Partnership along with the league and partner clubs hope to run a similar event next year.
